Wendell Stanley - The Beast from the East

I was born in 2000 and originally from Zimbabwe, I moved to New Zealand when I was seven years
old with my family.

New Zealand has given me so many opportunities, with lifestyle, schooling, but especially with
sports. Originally, I started out in Taekwondo, but had a real desire to compete and to experience a fuller combat type of competition. Boxing is where I have found this, and I started training in 2015 at the Revills Boxing Gym in Pakuranga Auckland.

This sport quickly became my focus and has the elements that I was looking for, discipline, routine, structure, technical ability, and fitness. I have currently had 54 Bouts with 39 wins and runner up of 15. 

I have learnt so much over the years, gaining experience and knowledge in the sport. I have reached goals of achieving Regional and National titles and now my goals have been raised to even higher levels.

I have set myself a 5-year goal plan. The Commonwealth games are part of this goal and my focus. I have been selected for the New Zealand Boxing Team for the 2022 Commonwealth games. I reached the quarterfinals, missing out on a medal by one point in judging. I have a strong desire to
succeed aided with a strong support team behind me, made up of family, team members and coaches.

My Goals do not stop there as part of this plan is reaching and representing New Zealand at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. Representing New Zealand at the world champs and competing at a high level on the international stage is what I strive for.

This is a lot of hard work and I welcome it. I have gained so much with this sport and I look forward to what more this sport has to offer. I have the strong work ethic, patience, resolve and attitude to give the best I can give and achieve the goals that I have set.
